New Delhi: Former South African captain AB de Villiers on Friday evening (September 7) announced his signing for upcoming Pakistan’s domestic T20 league, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018-19 season. De Villiers, who revealed the news through a video message, will be part of the PSL Player Draft this season. PSL took to Twitter to break the news along with the video and wrote, “BREAKING: The GOAT from South Africa is now a part of PSL! A warm welcome to @abdevilliers17 #ABaurPSL.”
Announcing his signing through a video for the forthcoming season, the South African added that he is eagerly waiting to be part of PSL. He said, “Pakistan Super League has grown into one of the top T20 tournaments in the world and I’ve really enjoyed watching PSL matches in recent years. PSL is a league that has given Pakistan so much to cheer about. I certainly can’t wait and I’ll see you there.”
De Villiers had announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this year saying, “It’s not about earning more somewhere else, it’s about running out of gas and feeling it’s the right time to move on.” But he did reveal that he will be available for the Titans and Royal Challengers Bangalore has confirmed that IPL will still witness the presence of the legend.

“We are delighted with the signing of de Villiers for Pakistan Super League,” said PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani. “He is a modern-day great and he will add immense value to the tournament. His involvement in PSL will also provide great learning opportunities for our youngsters.”
Chances are high that De Villiers might be picked by Lahore Qalandars who will be allowed to pick first during the bidding by virtue of finishing at the bottom of the table in the previous season. In fact, the franchise had finished bottom over the last three seasons and thereby had the chance of picking Chris Lynn, Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle, and so De Villiers might be their next high profile player.
