Priyanka Chopra, the Bollywood diva who has been in the news recently for abruptly leaving Bharat and signing on a Hollywood film with Chris Pratt, is once again making headlines. While rumours are that Priyanka had walked out of the Ali Abbas Zafar directorial venture (Bharat) in order to star opposite Chris Pratt in the upcoming Hollywood action flick Cowboy Ninja Viking. However, news has now emerged that the film has been shelved indefinitely.
According to a report in collider.com, the Hollywood action flick was expected to go into production in September 2018. However, apparently that’s not happening anymore. Universal Studios haven’t made an official statement on whether the project is being shelved permanently, but they have pulled out the release date for the film – June 28, 2019 and delayed production indefinitely.
This will be quite an ‘ouch’ moment for Priyanka, who is rumoured to have left the big-budget Salman Khan film Bharat to star opposite Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Starlord – Pratt. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Salman himself stated that while Priyanka had initially given the makers of Bharat a different reason (alluding to the rumours of Priyank’s marriage to Nick Jonas), and, the team later found out that she has signed up for a Hollywood film.
“Uss waqt kuchh alag reason diye gaye the hame. Jo bhi reason hai, shaadi ka reason ho, ya picture ka reason ho, ya unko India main nahi kaam karna, ya mere saath nahi kaam karna, sirf Hollywood film aur TV show karna hai, wo unka reason hai (She had given us a different reason at the time of her exit. Whatever the reason may be, whether she’s getting married, or she doesn’t like the film, or she doesn’t want to work in India or doesn’t want to work with me, that’s her choice. We are really happy and supportive about her doing good work),” – Salman had said in the interview.
One could make out that the Bollywood superstar wasn’t impressed with Priyanka Chopra’s unprofessional attitude, walking out of a film 10 days before her shooting schedule was to begin. The makers later signed Katrina Kaif to replace Priyanka in the film. But Salman could be holding a grudge against the actress for wanting to work with a Hollywood star instead of him.
“Agar yahan pe kaam nahi kare to kya hua, waha pe to who Hindustan ka naam roshan kar rahi hai. Agar Salman Khan ke saath kaam nahi karna, waha ke kisi bade hero ke saath kaam kar rahi hai to Hindustan ka naam to roshan hota hai na (If she doesn’t want to work Bollywood and instead in Hollywood, Priyanka is still making India proud. If she doesn’t want to work with Salman Khan and instead with a big Hollywood star, she’ll still make us all proud back home,” Salman concluded.
Well, it seems like Priyanka’s big summer blockbuster Hollywood flick will have to take a back seat until further notice. We bet she’s regretting the fact that she allegedly left Bharat for Cowboy Ninja Viking and Salman may be having the last laugh.
