After Tejashwi Yadav’s Nitish Kumar Barb, Congress Says RJD ‘Tried And Tested Ally’

Patna: Defending its stand on the alliance with RJD, the Congress on Friday said that RJD had “always been a tried and tested ally of Congress, unlike Nitish who betrayed the 2015 Assembly poll mandate”, as per a report by The Indian Express. The statements from Congress came a day after the RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav alleged that their ally Congress may have a “soft corner” for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Recently, some Congress MLAs praised Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, who joined the BJP leading to the collapse of the ‘Grand Alliance’ of the RJD, JD(U) and the Congress. MLAs including the party’s legislature party leader Sadanand Singh praised the Bihar CM and asked to re-think the stand on the CM’s involvement in the alliance in a pro-Kumar comment.

These comments came after Tejashwi Yadav had already made clear that RJD will not have any alliance with Nitish Kumar again in the ‘mahagathbandhan’. This development came amid speculations of Kumar’s growing discomfort in the BJP-led NDA government which he joined in July 2017.

“There has been no question about the RJD being a tried and tested ally of Congress. It is Nitish Kumar who betrayed the 2015 mandate by deserting the Grand Alliance to join NDA again,” AICC media panelist and Congress MLC, Prem Chandra Mishra was quoted as saying by The Indian Express. He also said that Congress leaders in Bihar should refrain from making comments on the alliance.

“It does not behove a veteran like Tewary to call some Congress leaders ‘aira gaira’. It is true it is only AICC president Rahul Gandhi whose views matter on questions of alliance. If Tejashwiji has been in touch with our party president, it should clear the RJD’s all doubts,” Mishra said further.
