10: 45 IST: The women’s doubles pairing of Prajakta Sawant and Sanyogita Ghorpade, was the only disappointment for India on Day 2 as they lost out to Bengisu Ercetin and Nazlican Inci of Turkey 20-22, 14-21. Barring them, the entire Indian contingent progressed further continuing their journey in the elite competition.

10: 10 IST: Kento Momota, meanwhile, has secured a 21-18, 21-10 victory over Luka Wraber. Tien Minh Nguyen, meanwhile has faced a 21-16, 21-18 defeat to the hands of Anders Antonsen in the Round of 16. The next match of Indian shuttlers still a couple of hours away from being started.

09: 20 IST: India’s HS Prannoy had won his opening round at the BWF World Championships 21-12, 21-11 in 28 minutes. The comprehensive performance by the ace shuttler had set him up for a Round 2 clash with Brazilian Ygor Coelho. Will Prannoy follow the footsteps of Srikanth to reach the third round?

08: 50 IST: HS Prannoy will be the next in action in Men’s Singles event at around 1:30 PM IST. The Indian doubles pairing of Ashwini Ponappa and N Sikki Reddy will be in action before him at around 12:30 PM in women’s doubles event. PV Sindhu’s match will take place later in the afternoon. Stay tuned for all the action on Day 3 from China.

08: 44 IST: That’s that for Srikanth! Not a dramatic end to a gruelling game as Srikanth moves into the Round of 16 with 21-15, 12-21, 21-14 victory over Pablo Abian. The contest had the Spaniard in lead and in full swing for a major part of the game but in the end, the superior-ranked shuttler secured a win.

08: 40 IST: A rare poor shot from Abian to give Srikanth an extended lead-time. The Indian produces some cheeky and well-timed shots over the Spanish shuttler to take 5-point lead. Abian then produces an exquisite shot to reduce the lead to 4 points. Another one for Kidambi as he leads 19-14 over Pablo.

08: 37 IST:  Srikanth bags two straight points after the mid-game interval to draw himself level 11-11. Abian takes the next one to move into the lead again. Srikanth has been playing catch-up to the Spaniard as the gruelling contest between two top shuttlers continues. Kidambi moves into the lead. SCORE Srikanth 14-12 Abian.

08: 33 IST:  Two diving saves by Srikanth on Abian’s smashes but the former fails to save a third consecutive. Excellent badminton being witnessed as the Spaniard looks in the best of his form. A challenge by Pablo which was ruled out by the referee. Unsuccessful one by the Spanish shuttler as Srikanth reduces the deficit to 2 points. Challenge by Srikanth too and he ends up successful to make referee reverse the allotment of the point. Abian, however, heads into the mid-game interval 11-9 in lead.

08: 28 IST: Srikanth has had his work cut out as Abian has shown exemplary tactical awareness to hit the Indian on his weak points. Challenge by Srikanth but goes unsuccessful. Terrific save by Abian but Srikanth continues his focus levels high to reduce the deficit to 1 point. SCORE Abian 9-7 Srikanth.

08: 24 IST: Srikanth with 3 consecutive points to move into lead as Abian was denied the option to challenge one of the referee’s call because of a late appeal. Srikanth’s 2-point lead reduced to 1 following another unforced error on the net. Abian draws level 6-6 soon after as the see-saw battle continues. SCORE Abian 6-6 Srikanth.

08: 21 IST: Game 3 starts off with Srikanth continuing the pattern of committing unforced errors. Abian takes the first two points while the Indian takes the third and fourth. A long rally with shots being fired at every corner of the court before Srikanth hits the net to concede a point. SCORE Abian 3-2 Srikanth.

08: 16 IST: A couple of points by Srikanth to keep Abian waiting for a win in Game 2 but not for long as the Spaniard takes two back-to-back points to win the game 21-12. Srikanth would have to do a lot better if he is to win the third and final game against his Spanish opponent who has looked very impressive.

08: 14 IST: Another exquisite rally which is won by Pablo Abian. The second game continues in absolute contrast when compared to the first game where Srikanth had bounced back after trailing in the initial period. Srikanth tries a cheeky shot but ends up giving away another point. A string of unforced errors by Srikanth as Abian takes 19-10 lead.

08: 12 IST: Two back-to-back points for Srikanth to reduce the deficit to 2 points but an error at the net cost him the next one. A good rally again between the two shuttlers as Srikanth takes the point. A brilliant diving save by Abian to not just keep himself alive but also take the point from Srikanth. SCORE Abian 14-10 Srikanth.

08: 08 IST: A few good moves from the Spanish shuttler to go 3 points ahead of Srikanth. The Spaniard has found another gear in his performance which sees the Indian struggle a bit after a very fine start. Abian moves into the second half of Game 2 with a 4-point cushion of Kidambi Srikanth. SCORE Abian 11-7 Srikanth.

08: 05 IST: One challenge each for Srikanth and Abian, both of which end up unsuccessful. Pablo putting most of his shots on Srikanth’s backhand but has seen himself put the shuttle out of the court because of that on many occasions. Casual from the Indian shuttler as Abian draws the score level 6-6.

08: 02 IST: Game 2 begins with Srikanth taking more points than the Spaniard, who struggles to experience the sort of start he witnessed in Game 1. Kidambi making his opponent do the hard work and commit mistakes. Srikanthw as leading 4-1 before a brilliant smash by Pablo reduced his deficit to 2 points. Another point and the scoreboard reads Srikanth 4-3 Abian.

07: 58 IST: Srikanth had to come from behind to take the lead at half-way mark in Game 1 but he showed his real game in the second half to deny the Spaniard many points taking opportunities. Abian saves a couple of game points to keep himself alive but Srikanth eventually wins it 21-15 to take 1-0 lead.

07: 53 IST: Stand out defence from Kidambi Srikanth as the Indian shuttler continues to make forward strides in Game 1. It’s all going Srikanth’s way in the second half as he keeps a 3-point lead over his Spanish opponent. SCORE Srikanth 15-12 Abian as fans witness the Srikanth they have known in the past 2 years or so.

07: 48 IST: At the mid-way mark, it’s the Indian Kidambi Srikanth rises into the game to take a 2-point lead. SCORE Srikanth 11-9 Abian as Srikanth looks to continue doing more of the same in the second half of the game as well a the rest of the match. Will the Spanish shuttler Abian bounce back?

07: 45 IST: Kidambi recovers 2 points to draw himself level 4-4 but then the Spaniard bags 2 more to move reclaim his lead. Srikanth, presently World No. 6, isn’t able to make his opponent work hard for points at the moment. Unforced errors costing the Hyderabadi shuttler points in the Game 1. A splendid rally by the pair as Srikanth takes the point to put the score Abian 7-6 Srikanth.

07: 41 IST:  The warm-ups are done and the match is underway! Abian takes the first point in Game 1 while Srikanth draws level immediately. Plenty of variations to begin with as both shuttlers utilise the full court in the initial phase of the game. Srikanth not looking as active at the start of the match, goes to points down. Score Abian 4-2 Srikanth.

07: 36 IST: Srikanth and Abian have arrived at the court to get the BWF World Championships Men’s Singles Round 2 underway. The Round 1 clash didn’t see Srikanth hit the top form but will he be more of the same today against the Spanish shuttler or the real Srikanth will step up to reaffirm his credentials for the title?

07: 32 IST: Kidambi Srikanth is the first Indian in action on Day 3 and he gets his Round 2 encounter with Pablo Abian underway in the early hours. The Indian shuttler hasn’t been at his absolute best since becoming World No. 1. The 33-year-old Pablo Abian is ready to test his nerves in the second Round in China.

07: 25 IST:  Srikanth had secured a convincing 21-15, 21-16 over Nhat Nguyen of Ireland on Day 2. Saina, in her second round encounter, had faced Turkey’s 20-year-old 71st ranked Aliye Demibrag as she secured a  21-17, 21-8 victory to setup Round 3 clash with Ratchanok Intanon. Srikanth, meanwhile, will be up against Spain’s Pablo Abian today.

07: 15 IST: Plenty of action in the Men’s Singles competition will be witnessed today from India’s perspective as Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, B Sai Praneet, Sameer Verma are in action today. PV Sindhu will also get her campaign underway in the women’s singles competition. Women’s Doubles and Men’s Doubles events will also have Indians participating.

The BWF World Championships 2018 are currently underway in Nanjing, China and as the tournament enters its third day, a number of top Indian shuttlers will be in action as they look to seal their berth in the Round of 16. In the men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, Sai Praneeth and Sameer Verma will all be in action while PV Sindhu will be playing against Fitriani Fitriani. Additionally, two men’s doubles pairings in the form of Chirag Shetty & Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Manu Atri & Sumeeth Reddy and the women’s duo of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy will also fight it out.
