10:43 IST: Saina Nehwal will be shortly in action in the Women’s singles event. Saina finished with a bronze in last year’s championships and this time around she will be poised to better that result. Meanwhile, Canada’s Michelle Li is up against Vietnam’s Thuy Linh Nguyen. The second set is underway and the game is forced to the decider.
10: 30 IST: In another result for India, Tarun Kona and Saurabh Sharma were ousted by the pair from Hong Kong in a three-setter with scores, 22-20, 21-18, 21-17. Another women’s singles title contender, PV Sindhu, will be in action on Day 3 (Wednesday) in the competition as she will take on Fitriani of Indonesia.
10: 20 IST: Saina had recently stunned the sports fraternity as she made it to the cover of Vogue magazine cover. Earlier, Saina had appeared on the cover of the magazine Femina. Her resurgence to the top of Indian badminton has been phenomenal ever since the downfall due to a knee injury. Hopefully, the World championships would mean another high for the shuttler this term.
The Day 2 at BWF World Championships started on a bright note for India as Kidambi Srikanth secured an easy 21-15, 21-16 victory over Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen. Saina Nehwal will be the next for India in women’s singles competition as she too would seek a comfortable progression into Round 3 by defeating Aliye Demirbag. Saina had received a bye in the first round and if she manages to beat the Turkish Demirbag then she would be up against Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand in third round. Saina had won a bronze in 2017 and silver in 2015 editions of the World Championships and would be expecting to do better this time around.
