Noida (Uttar Pradesh): A 15-year-old girl student committed suicide at her home here on Tuesday by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. Her parents alleged that she was being sexually harassed by her teachers. News agency ANI reported that the girl was studying in Class 9 at Ahlcon Public School located in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase-III. NDTV reported that the girl’s family has filed an FIR against two teachers and the police have booked them for abetment to suicide.
The parents claimed that their daughter took the extreme step as she was under mental pressure due to low marks and harassment by teachers. In fact, the girl’s father claimed that his daughter’s SST teachers used to sexually harass her. “She told me that her SST teachers used to touch her inappropriately. I had told her that since I am also a teacher, I can say with confidence they can’t do it, she might have been mistaken. However, she said, ‘I’m scared of them, no matter how well I write they will fail me in the exams’. Ultimately they failed her in SST exam. School killed her,” the father was quoted as saying by ANI.
The girl’s mother claimed her daughter was hesitant to go to school as she was regularly scolded by her two SST teachers, who she said were very strict. The parents said their daughter was a good Kathak dancer and was taking classes in classical dance.
“The father has alleged that her daughter was harassed by two school teachers and failed her in exams intentionally. A case has been registered under Sections 306 and 506 IPC and POCSO Act. Further investigation is underway. Our officers will also visit the school today,” Arun K Singh, SP City, Noida, said.
A doctor at Noida’s Kailash Hospital, where the girl was taken after she was found hanging at her home, said, “The 15-year-old girl was brought to us. On arrival her pulse and blood pressure were un-recordable. We tried to revive her but couldn’t. The cause of death can be known after post-mortem.”
Meanwhile, the principal of Ahlcon Public School said, as per ANI: “It’s an unfortunate incident. The school has been following promotion policies of the CBSE. Let me make it clear that she had not failed, a re-test was scheduled. We will cooperate with probe agencies.”
The Times of India reported that the family had gone out for some work and found the door to be locked from inside when they returned. The parents broke open the door and found their daughter hanging from a ceiling fan.
