New Delhi: More than a week has passed, the rumoured-unveiling date of July 7 has also passed, but there has been no official report about Cristiano Ronaldo’s possible transfer from Real Madrid to Juventus, which has garnered ample curiosity in world football amid the FIFA World Cup 2018 craze. And recently, club teammate and Croatia captain Luka Modric reacted to the rumours.
It was right after Real Madrid third consecutive Champions League win that came against Liverpool in May that Ronaldo dropped the bombshell on a possible transfer from the Santiago Bernabeu. And the possibility reached its peak after Portugal’s exit from World Cup in the Round of 16 following defeat to Uruguay.
Media reports revealed his possible transfer to the Old Lady of Turin with Real Madrid agreeing upon the deal of £88 million for a four-year deal making Ronaldo earn £26.5 million a season. However, his teammate Luka Modric reckons that the 33-year-old will continue with his glorifying career with the Spanish Giant. because he’s the ‘best player in the world’.
“Let’s see what happens. I don’t think he’s going to leave, and I’d like him to stay because he’s the best player in the world,” he told AS. “I think he’s going to stay; that’s my opinion. It would be great if he did because I can’t imagine him at any other club.”
Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes hinted towards the possibility of Ronaldo’s exit, saying that the Portuguese striker will be a “new challenge in his brilliant career.”
“If Cristiano Ronaldo does leave Real Madrid, he will be eternally grateful to the club, the president, the whole team, the medical staff, the supporters and all the Madridistas around the world,” he told Portuguese newspaper Record. “It will only be for a new stage and a new challenge in his brilliant career.”
