Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter’s Dhadak will hit the screens this Friday. And while it has been Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju that was ruling the box office for three weeks, Dhadak is expected to break its number one spree at the box office. The film has a good buzz surrounding its release and if film trade experts are to be believed, it will open on a good note at the box office.
According to trade analyst Akshaye Rathi, Dhadak is carrying good buzz around it. He exclusively told ZoomTV.com that Dhadak seems very interesting. There are several reasons for that he says, one being the lead cast of Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. He says they have the potential to be huge Bollywood stars and if one looks at it from the industry’s perspective it will be a good thing. The reason he says is that Bollywood is in need of a lot of talent who’ll have the box office pull to get the audience into theatres.
Talking further about film’s chances at the box office Akshaye says that Karan Johar is producing the film, so it’s a no-brainer that he will make sure the whole country knows them. He further adds that Karan has already proved this in the past by launching Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and up to an extent even Sidharth Malhotra to stardom.
Talking about the content of the film, he says that the film is based on Romeo and Juliet. Citing the example of previous Hindi films based on the theme he points out that all of them have been a success be it Ishaqzaade, Goliyon Ki Raas Leela… Ram Leela, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and even Marathi blockbuster Sairat, which is the source material for Dhadak. He says that this story always works with the Indian audience.
When talking about the music, he says that the music of the film is hit. The title track, Zingat remake all are climbing the charts.
Finally, talking about the director, Akshaye says that Shashank Khaitan has a 100 per cent success rate so far. His last two films Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania were both critical and commercial success. So, that again is a win for Dhadak.
So, what will be the opening day number of the film? Akshaye says Dhadak will open north of Rs 6 crore. Which is decent for a film starring newcomers.
As for the opening weekend biz, if the word of mouth is positive, Akshaye believes that Dhadak might make Rs 25 crore in its first three days. However, he points out monsoon in several parts of the country, especially, Mumbai might play spoilsport and hamper film’s collection.
Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Dhadak is an official remake of Marathi blockbuster Sairat, which made over Rs 100 crore at the box office. A realistic take on Romeo and Juliet, Dhadak is produced by Karan Johar. The film has recreated songs like Zingaat and Yad Lagla from Sairat as Zingat and Pehli Baar, respectively.
For those still unaware, Jahnvi Kapoor is the daughter of late legend Sridevi and film producer Boney Kapoor. Ishaan Khatter is actor Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother, who made is big screen debut as a lead actor earlier this year in Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds.
