New Delhi: Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi on Thursday evening (June 28) created a hilarious moment during the FIFA World Cup 2018 Group-G match between Belgium and England at the Kaliningrad Stadium when he accidentally kicked the ball into his own face. It was just after winger Adnan Januzaj scored the winner for Belgium. The match ended 1-0 and Belgium soared to the top of the group, while England finished second.
The match between England and Belgium was an anticipated encounter. Both had won their first two group matches in the tournament, and both scored eight goals and conceded two. And so the match was supposed to decide on the group leaders.
However, England coach Gareth Southgate made eight changes to his squad including benching Harry Kane in place of Jamie Vardy. And all the tactics went wrong for England as Belgium edged past the Three Lions to inflict their first defeat in the FIFA World Cup 2018 and all came from just one solitary goal.
Six minutes into the second half, Januzaj cut in from the right, dribbled past Rose to curl in an unsavable shot past goalkeeper Pickford to the top-left corner. It seemed to be the only astonishing moment in the dull game. And then, when the ball rolled off the net, Batshuayi took it and kicked the ball, but it bounced off the woodwork to hit his face. He grabbed his face in pain, before joining his teammates for the celebration.
