Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan bagged a pair of ducks in the first and only practice match ahead of the five-match Test series against England. The left-handed batsman was dismissed on the first delivery he faced during the first day’s play and on Friday, during India’s second innings, he again failed to open his account and this time, lasted for just three deliveries on the crease.

During his second outing to the crease, he was bowled by Matthew Quinn. A pair bagged by Dhawan has raised problems for the Indian team as he looked to get an edge over KL Rahul to open the innings along with Murali Vijay but with him failing in both the innings, it will be difficult for the captain to make Rahul sit out.

Because of Dhawan’s catastrophic failure, there is a fair chance of Vijay opening the innings with Rahul in the first Test of the series against England which starts on August 1.

After bagging a pair in the practice game, Dhawan came under the scanner and also got trolled on Twitter for his poor show. Here is how Twitteratti trolled the 32-year-old player opening batsman:

The match ended in a draw with India at a score of 89/2 after the end of third day’s play. The visiting team had won the toss and had opted to bat first. Despite a poor start, India managed to put up a total of 395.

Essex declared their first innings at 359/8 on the third day, allowing India to bat again. Although, the rain marked an early end to the practice match.

The practice match gave a rough idea to the Indian players of how the pitches will play during the Test series. Despite the weather being hot and humid in England, there was enough for the pacers in the first few overs, which can be crucial for the team bowling first during the series.
