Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, is unwell and did not turn up for the practice session on the eve of the game against Delhi Daredevils, a report in Sportstar suggests. There is a likelihood that Kohli might miss the game if he fails to recover in time. Virat’s participation in the contest totally depends on his health and the franchise is still sweating on his fitness.
Should he be ruled out, AB de Villiers will be an automatic choice to lead the team. The former South African captain has never led this franchise in past and will be making his captaincy debut for RCB, if the regular captain is deemed unfit. Though, Kohli’s absence will come as a big blow for the side which is already placed at the seventh place on the points table.
Despite the presence of a number of star batsmen in the team, Kohli has stood out for the team by scoring 396 runs from 10 games, highest for RCB. De Villiers comes next to him with 286 runs from eight games. The South African had to miss two games due to illness.
Sarfaraz Khan, one of the three players to be retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL auction, might get another chance if Kohli misses this game. The 20-year-old batsman has just managed 11 runs from three innings so far.
It’s a must-win game for Royal Challengers Bangalore as a win will keep them in the fray to qualify for the next round while a defeat will rule them out of the tournament. They are currently placed at the seventh position on the points table with just three wins from 11 games. Kohli being ruled out will be the last thing that the team management would ask for and the skipper might also push himself to the part this must-win contest.
