Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus from Real Madrid became the talk of the town as the 33-year-old ended his 9-year association with the Spanish giants ahead of the 2018-19 season. Having not featured in the pre-season friendlies as yet because of his participation in the FIFA World Cup, Ronaldo’s fans have a good news as his debut with the Old Lady will be aired live on Facebook free of cost.

Fans in the UK will now be able to watch one match per week absolutely free on Facebook as Eleven Sports, the new rights holder, has struck a deal with the social media giants. As a part of the contract, one match will be picked every week and will be live streamed on Eleven Sports Facebook page, with the coverage starting from Ronaldo’s debut with Juventus in the Serie A on August 18 against Chievo.

“By making Facebook our free-to-air partner, we are giving our leading content centre stage projection, opening it up to new and diverse audiences, and confirming again our innovative leadership in the global sports media industry,”  Group Managing Director, of Eleven Sports, Danny Menken, had said.

The stream, unfortunately, will be limited to the United Kingdom only and hence fans across the globe wouldn’t be able to benefit from it. This leaves the Indian fans with only the traditional mediums available.

“We’re excited to build on our strong relationship with Eleven Sports by becoming the free-to-air home in the UK and Ireland for a selection of its live broadcasts this season,” Rhys Beer, the Facebook Live Sports Programming Lead, EMEA, had revealed.

Having broken virtually all records and lifted every single piece of silverware at Real Madrid, Ronaldo would hope to leave a similar legacy at Juventus when his contract with the Turin-based club comes to an end.
