Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy rainfall in Mumbai for the weekend. The IMD warning said that a few places in Mumbai will receive heavy rainfall on Saturday. Isolated places in Thane, Palghar, Raigad will be among other places than Mumbai to receive heavy rainfall.

In the past two weeks, Mumbai received the heaviest rainfall of the season. On Sunday, the IMD has predicted that there will be heavy rainfall at a few places.

After two bikers were killed due to the potholes in Kalyan and Navi Mumbai, the death toll due to pothole killings has climbed to five. The civic issues have been a headache for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) every year during the monsoon season.

After pouring for several days, the rains finally took a break on Wednesday. The heavy downpour choked the city as the local train services were disrupted and roads were water-logged in most part of the city.

According to the MeT department, the city has received 864.5 mm rain in just 10 days. Nallasopara and Virar stations were the among the most affected areas in the city. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had rescued nearly 2,000 passengers of Shatabdi and Vadodara Express.

The IMD said that Mumbai has received 60 percent of the required annual rainfall in the past two weeks, since the beginning of monsoon. The Bharatiya Janata Party president Mumbai Ashish Shela has urged BMC to start taking measures in order to prevent flooding in the city.
