After the BJP won the no-confidence motion in a dramatic parliament session on Friday, several reacted to the whopping numbers of ‘noes’ in favour of the Modi-led government. After the 11-hour debate, political leaders from various parties slammed the Centre. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor overlooked the loss of the opposition saying that the main goal was achieved as BJP’s ‘failures were put before the nation’.

“Basic message is that the journey is more important than the destination. Failures of the BJP govt were put before the nation. The outcome was predictable but the process was successful,” Tharoor was quoted as saying by ANI.

TDP chief and Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu also took a jibe at Modi’s speech. “As part of our continuous fight, we introduced this no-confidence motion. In the last four years, I went to Delhi 29 times. Instead of doing justice to AP, he is resorting political attack on me alleging I took U-turn,” he was quoted as saying. He also expressed disappointment at the fact that he called them ‘ egoistic’.

“All the people should show their protest again. All people should unite in raising voice against the Centre. Those parties supporting BJP also should be taught a lesson,” he said further. Naidu also said that the Centre is ‘showing negligence’ because they don’t have the numbers.

Several others from TDP, the party that moved the no-confidence motion against the BJP, also slammed PM Modi’s speech and his failure to provide special status to the state of Andhra Pradesh. “He (PM Modi) has not even attempted to answer the outstanding issues of Andhra Pradesh, it was not expected from him. It is unfortunate. Tomorrow AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu is coming to Delhi, then we will decide the next step,” TDP MP YS Choudhary was quoted as saying by ANI.

TDP MP Jayadev Galla who presented a series of complaints from Andhra Pradesh against the BJP, also said PM Modi’s allegation that the TDP is doing it for ‘political gain’ was ‘ridiculous’. “ He is tying up with our rivals while he is still in alliance with us and trying to weaken by starving our state (Andhra Pradesh) of funds,” he said.

Opposition leader MM Kharge alleged that PM Modi never talked of what his government had done in all 4 years of power. “We posed questions to PM Modi on Rafael deal, Nirav Modi etc but he didn’t answer any. His speech was ‘dramebaazi.’ He didn’t say anything for people of Andhra Pradesh. He was telling us what previous govts have done & not what his govt has done in 4 years,” he was quoted as saying.

“PM Modi answered each & every question that was posed to him. He literally shattered the Congress: Union Minister MJ Akbar on #NoConfidenceMotion against NDA government rejected Defeat of Congress & opposition is a precursor to their defeat in 2019 It also gives public at large a sense of how scattered opposition is & has given citizens a look into what kind of strategy Congress is willing to embrace that there is instability in the country,” BJP’s Smriti Irani said after the win.

Meanwhile, BJP members, Union Ministers Piyush Goyal & Rajnath Singh and BJP President Amit Shah were seen showing victory signs after they won with a comfortable majority.
