Jio in a statement has refuted any claims of a new crypto currency app being developed by the company. In a statement late on Wednesday, the company said “Jio has not launched any JioCoin App.”
In an emailed statement, the company said “Reliance Jio has come across reports in media and other websites about the existence of purported JioCoin apps on the Internet that are soliciting investments in crypto currencies from people.”
The official statement from the company comes merely weeks after a new circulating in the media about the company working on a crypto currency.
“Reliance Jio would like to inform the public and media that there are no such apps offered by the company or its affiliates / associates. Any such apps using the JioCoin name are fake and people are advised to refrain from dealing with any of them,” the company added.
“Reliance Jio takes a serious note of such fraudulent attempts by unscrupulous persons to misguide the public in the name of Jio and reserves the right to take appropriate legal recourse,” it added.
Reliance Jio has been reported to be working on a new smartphone running Google’s new Android Oreo (Go edition) in partnership with MediaTek, after the success of JioPhone in India. Reliance already has a bunch of smartphones under its Lyf branding but this could get rebranded with Android Oreo (Go edition) powering the device.
