Sanjay Dutt watched his biopic, titled Sanju, and simply loved it. So much so that it made him really emotional as he applauded the entire cast and crew for their brilliant act. Vicky Kaushal, especially, as Dutt told him that the young actor has presented his character meticulously on celluloid. Ranbir Kapoor stars as Sanjay Dutt in Sanju while Vicky Kaushal plays Kamli or Kamlesh, Dutt’s close friend.
After receiving several compliments for his performance in Sanju, Vicky, in an interview with mid-day, said that Dutt spoke called him after a special screening of the film was held by director Rajkumar Hirani and they conversed in Punjabi. In Sanju, Kamli plays an instrumental role in helping Dutt overcome drug addiction and acts as his sole source of support in crisis.
Asked about the best compliment he has received so far for Sanju, Vicky told mid-day: “It came from the man himself, Sanjay Dutt. Raju sir held a screening, and after the film got over, called me to say that Sanjay sir wanted to talk to me. We communicated in Punjabi. He said, “I got really emotional with your performance. You have truly portrayed the meaning of friendship, and your act is accurate when I think of the friends I have had. Puttar, tune dil jeet liya [Son, you have won my heart.]” Sanjay sir is all heart. He loves to share happiness and love.”
Sanju painstakingly presents Sanjay Dutt’s life on screen – from his twenties to present day, with special focus on his struggle with drug-addiction and his jail term in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts case apart from depicting his relationship with his parents.
It features an ensemble cast of Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Jim Sarbh, Sonam Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in a special appearance.
