Former Australia spin-legend, Shane Warne, has predicted that Indian skipper Virat Kohli will nail England this year on India tour of England from July to September. Keeping Kohli’s record of the previous tour to the country in mind, Warne said that Kohli will have an unbelievable series, which will keep him in good stead for the tour of Australia too.
“India face England first; perhaps the only place which Virat hasn’t yet nailed. And I think he will nail England this year. I think Virat will have an unbelievable series in England which will hold him in good stead in Australia also,” he told India Today.
Kohli did not have a great tour to England in 2014 as he could just manage 134 runs from 10 innings in five Tests at an average of 13.40. He struggled mainly against the swing bowling and was failing to judge the line of the ball; as a result of which he was losing his off-stump on occasions.
The right-handed batsman has decided to prepare for the ardent Tests series well in advance as he will be playing county cricket for Surrey so to have a better idea about the conditions in England. The stint will surely help him to get a better idea about the conditions.
After a one-month stint, he will also play a limited-overs series, which will mean that he will play enough games before the start of the Test series.
The India tour of England comprises three T20Is, three ODIs and a total of five Test matches. Prior to England tour, the Indian team will also play two-match T20I series against Ireland. Captain Kohli is expected to miss the first T20I of the series due to his commitment with Surrey county club. Though, an official announcement regarding him playing the first game or not is yet to be made.
