When Sonam Kapoor tied the knot with Anand Ahuja, their wedding and reception not just broke the internet but also witnessed a crazy Bollywood reunion, the kind that will be remembered for years to come. Shah Rukh Khan-Salman Khan danced their hearts out, the entire ‘blue blood’ brigade including Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan turned up and burnt the dance floor, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor had the time of their life post 3 am, Anil Kapoor recreated his My Name Is Lakhan moment and Karan Johar earned over a thousand wedding invitations on social media, if not more, courtesy his dance performance. And these were only some of the moments from the night that it was.

The duo got married on May 8 in a traditional Indian ceremony but the wedding festivities had begun much before at the Kapoor residence. The house was decked up with flowers and lights and while Sonam was gearing up for the release of her film Veere Di Wedding, her real-life wedding was the topic people wanted to chat about.

Sonam and Anand’s ‘Everyday Phenomenal’ love story hooked the nation with aww-worthy comments flooding on their Instagram posts but not much was known about how they’d met and how it all began. And the actor, too, always maintained a certain silence over how she’d met Anand in order to keep her private life private, but in an interview to VOGUE India, the couple has opened up about their relationship like never before.

From the moment they fell in love with each other to their understanding as a couple, the duo, it seems, has got it all right. Theirs’ is a love story that knows no bound and happens to be just the right definition of a modern-day fairytale. The two started talking to each other on Facebook and Snapchat and it was only after it progressed to late night calls that the couple decided to meet. London was where the two first met, given that Anand was there and Sonam had a fitting with designers Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo, it seemed like an ideal place for the two.

Sonam, who took to Instagram to share snippets of her VOGUE India interview, recalled her first date and while it’s every bit romantic, it’s nothing like you’d ever imagine. “I was apparently wearing the worst sneakers he had ever seen. I keep telling him that he fell in love with me despite my bad sneaker game… That day, walking and talking in London, I knew he was the love of my life. He apparently knew the first time we spoke on the phone… It was just so easy,” she shared alongside an unseen photograph from their wedding.

While Sonam is known for her films including Neerja, Veere Di Wedding, Aisha, Raanjhnaa, Anand is the founder of label Bhane and sneaker store Veg Non Veg. On the surface, not much might seem common between the two, except for the fact no one pulls off Bhane clothes like Sonam does, but the two bear great admiration and respect for each other.

Like when Sonam had to leave for Cannes just two days after their wedding, there was no fight, no argument, just plain understanding for each other’s work among other things. In another Instagram post, she shared another snippet from her interview and wrote, “Anand is so encouraging when it comes to my work that he didn’t blink when I told him I was flying to Cannes two days after the wedding or that I was getting into promotions straightaway. There was no argument, just acceptance—you gotta do what you gotta do.”

Anand, too, is all praise for his actor wife Sonam and her strength to call out the wrongs. “She gives me a lot of confidence. Sonam’s very black and white. She knows what’s wrong and what’s right and is not afraid to say it. I can see both sides of a story, but I often get stuck in the grey zone. I sometimes need to be able to say no, and Sonam gives me the confidence to do that, she supports me. She’s intuitive and patient, I second-guess,” read another caption and a snippet from the said interview.

And if the wedding week wasn’t enough to melt your hearts, cue in the awws as you find yourself gushing over their fairytale romance once again.
