Swashbuckling India skipper Virat Kohli, fabled for his sheer athleticism and his flawless cricketing abilities, has given fitness a new level. Setting a benchmark around the Indian cricket circuit, the 29-year-old has left an example of his unmatched labour for budding sports aspirants around. And weighing in his thoughts on his ‘favourite athlete’ Kohli hailed Swiss Tennis great – Roger Federer, for his unparalleled shape that he has maintained even at the age of 36. The Tennis legend regained the number one spot in ATP World Rankings after lifting the ATP Rotterdam title in the Netherlands, recently. The decorated athlete was also crowned at the Laureus World Sports Awards 2018, taking his Laureus Awards tally to sixth, the most by any athlete.

Speaking at the sidelines of a promotional event for noted watch brand Tissot, Kohli quipped, “Roger Federer is my ultimate favourite. When he plays it’s so beautiful. He has a family now, priorities set, he takes time out of the game without worrying about opinions and criticism of people and then he comes in and wins Grand Slams at 36, he is defying all the logic and that’s something I totally love.”

“I hate following the norm and he is someone who is breaking barriers on a daily basis and I have huge respect for him,” concluded the Delhi cricketer.

Kohli, who has been rested for the tri-nation T20I series, Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka, also opened up on his much-needed hiatus, “Physically I had a few niggles, I am just getting over those. The workload has started to disagree with me a little bit. I have to be very careful about how I go forward with my body, my mind, my cricket. Times like these are very, very important. I am totally enjoying it; I do not even have an inch of me missing out on anything because my body really needed this.”

Kohli is among the six other Indian players who have been rested from the T20I series between India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni, speedsters Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, chinaman Kuldeep Yadav and all-rounder Hardik Pandya were the other five players who were also rested keeping India’s tour to England in July this year on the mind.

Kohli, who is popular for his exuberant agility on and off the 22-yards also intimated his fondness of being idle at times, “I can sit and not move for hours. For all the energy that I may show on the field, when I get time at home, I can be a total vegetable. I can be very annoying because I do not move at all.”
