Xiaomi’s upcoming budget smartphone, the Redmi Y2 and its latest operating system- MIUI 10 are expected to be announced in India today. The launch event is scheduled to take place at 3:00 PM IST in New Delhi. The Chinese consumer electronics maker is expected to reveal a rebranded version of the Redmi S2 that was launched in its home market of China last year. MIUI 10 is the next version of its customised OS-based on Android Oreo.

Xiaomi Redmi Y2 specifications
Redmi Y2 is expected to sport a 5.99-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. It will likely be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC with Adreno 506 GPU. It may include 3/4GB of RAM and 32/64GB of internal storage. On the camera front, the smartphone is said to have a dual camera setup- 12-megapixel primary lens + 5-megapixel secondary sensor. The selfie camera is a 16-megapixel AI shooter. The device could be backed by a 3080mAh battery and ship with MIUI 9 out of the box.

Xiaomi’s latest version of its customised Android operating system is expected to be announced for the Indian-specific market. The OS features a redesigned task manager, support for gestures and AI portrait mode. AI Portrait mode is said to work even on cameras with a single rear lens. Also included is support for screen aspect ratios up to 19:9. Gestures is another highlighted feature on the MIUI 10, and we can expect to see more of it at the launch today.
