Xiaomi Redmi 6A With 18:9 Display Launched: Price In India, Specifications

Xiaomi on Wednesday launched its new Redmi-series including the Redmi 6A, Redmi 6, and Redmi 6 Pro smartphones. The Redmi 6A is the entry level model in the Redmi 6 series and is placed below the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6 Pro. The entry-level Redmi 6A basically will replace last year’s Redmi 5A which was launched at an introdcutory price of Rs. 5,999.

One of the highlights of the Redmi 6 series is it comes with face unlock feature which means Redmi 6A, Redmi 6, and Redmi 6 Pro all pack the feature. The Redmi 6A is being marketed as ‘Desh ka naya smartphone.’

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A will be available in India at Rs. 5,999 via Amazon India and Mi.com. It will be also available in 3GB RAM with 32GB storage priced at Rs. 6,999. It will be available starting September 19. Apart from Amazon and Mi.com, the Redmi 6A will also be available via Mi Homes and offline retailers.

The company has cleared that these are introductory price and this might be raised based on dollar appreciation.

Xiaomi Redmi 6A specifications

The Redmi 6A features a 18:9 aspect ratio which is a first for the price segment from Xiaomi. The new screen aspect ratio basically gives more screen real estate to users in this price segment.

The dual-SIM (Nano) Redmi 6A runs on Android Oreo-based MIUI 9. It features a 5.45-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) display. The display offers a pixel density of 295ppi. Under the hood, the Redmi 6A is powered by a quad-core MediaTek A22 processor, same as the China model. The smartphone comes with 16GB inbuilt storage with support for expandable storage via microSD card (up to 256GB).

In the camera department, the Redmi 6A sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF. There’s a 5-megapixel front camera. The rear camera comes with features like scene selection, AI recognition, Night scene, HDR mode, and more. The selfie camera gets portrait mode, Smart beauty, HDR, and age detection.

As for the camera department, the Redmi 6A gets a single 13-megapixel rear sensor with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF, unlike its big brother Redmi 6 that has two sensors on the back. The front of the smartphone gets a 5-megapixel camera sensor and Portrait mode, for selfies and video calling. It packs a 3000mAh battery and weighs 145 grams.
